A Toledo man was seriously injured today when his car struck a sign and several trees, troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol's Toledo post said.

Robert R. Stahl, 30, was taken by medical helicopter to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital. Troopers said he was in serious condition. A hospital spokesman could not be reached.

Troopers said Mr. Stahl was northbound on I-475/U.S. 23 in Sylvania Township in the left lane about 5:25 p.m. when he tried to change lanes to continue eastbound on I-475 toward Toledo. Instead, his car went off the left side of the road, and he had to be freed from the vehicle after the car hit a sign and trees.
