ATTICA, Ohio — An autopsy was performed Monday on a baby girl whose death during the weekend is under investigation by Attica police.

Authorities said Emelia L. Carter, 5 months old, was apparently found unresponsive Sunday on a couch where she had been sleeping at an East High Street residence, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office and Attica police.

The body was taken to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy was performed Monday. Attica police Chief Keith Turner said he is waiting on results from the coroner and toxicology tests.

“There’s an active death investigation at this time,” he said.

Seneca County Coroner Mark Akers could not be reached for comment. Attica, which is in Seneca County, is about 65 miles southeast of Toledo.
