Pedestrian struck by minivan in Monroe Township
11/16/2013MONROE -- A minivan struck a pedestrian who was standing in the left lane of traffic Saturday night on South Dixie Highway in Monroe Township, Monroe County sheriff's deputies said.
The pedestrian, Kelly A. Mazzola, 37, of Milan, Mich., was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital. She was in critical condition, deputies said.
Laura L. Leege, 52, of Monroe was southbound on South Dixie south of Dunbar Road about 8:15 p.m. when the collision occurred. Ms. Mazzolla was standing in the left travel lane, deputies said.
Ms. Leege, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. Deputies do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
