The death of a Toledo cab driver in May has been ruled a homicide by the Lucas County Coroner's Office.

William Moore, 66, of Toledo, died May 5 at Toledo Hospital where he checked in days after being assaulted by a potential rider.

Mr. Moore went to Chuck's on Monroe, 4477 Monroe St., at about 2:30 a.m., April 28 looking for fares.

In a video posted by the Toledo Police Department, he opens the door to his van and is approached by two men -- one of the men appears to have a verbal exchange with the driver and the two start to fight. Mr. Moore was hit in the head, said police Sgt. Joe Heffernan.

The second man, in one frame, looks like he makes a meager attempt to break-up the fight, but is shrugged off by the assailant.

Mr. Moore died at the hospital, but because of existing health problems, the death was not flagged until the homicide ruling was issued this month by the coroner's office.

"Whoever got in a fight with this guy, we need him to come forward and let us know what happened," said Sergeant Heffernan.

The video showing the assault was first posted on the Toledo Police Department's Facebook page in July, describing the attack as an assault, and asking for tips.

The video was posted again today, this time as a homicide.
