Michigan authorities believe two suspects in a brutal weekend assault are in Toledo.

Officials with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said they know who the men are, but did not identify them or provide descriptions.

Deputies reported that two Monroe County men were in Toledo, visiting a "gentlemen's club," on Saturday. The two were ditched by their ride and caught a ride back to Monroe Township from a trio of people, all from Michigan.

The five arrived at Woodland Park, at Parkwood Drive and Oakwood Street, where the club-goers were parked. One of the club-goers, a 20-year-old Newport, Mich., man, "sensing a problem," ran to his vehicle leaving behind his 21-year-old friend from Monroe.

The trio with the car choked the 21-year-old and dragged him behind the vehicle where he was beaten with a tire iron, assaulted with a machete, kicked, and punched, officials said.

The trio stole the man's wallet and shoes and fled.

The Newport man came back to his badly beaten friend and took him to Mercy Memorial Hospital before he was transferred to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

The victim was seriously injured, but officials expect him to make a full recovery.

During the investigation, officials said they were able to identify the three suspects and arrested one, a 24-year-old Ida Township, Mich., man, early Sunday morning.

Police are still searching for a 21-year-old suspect who once lived in Raisinville Township, and a 19-year-old who formerly lived in Monroe Township.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Brian Sroka or Sgt. Jeff Pauli 734-243-7070 or 734-240-7700.
