Man struck, killed by vehicle in Perkins Township

SANDUSKY -- A man in a motorized wheelchair died Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle in Perkins Township, officials said.

Killed in the collision was Harry Kimberlin, 67, of Sandusky, according to the Highway Patrol.

Mr. Kimberlin was struck at about 8:30 p.m. when he attempted to travel eastbound through a crosswalk on U.S. 250, at Strub Road, despite not having the right-of-way, according to the Highway Patrol.

Mr. Kimberlin was struck by a 2013 Audi A3 driven by Donald Hibbard, 73, of Sandusky.

Troopers said Mr. Hibbard had a "solid green light."

Mr. Kimberlin was ejected from his wheelchair and responsive at the scene, troopers reported. He was taken to Firelands Community Hospital and later taken by helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center where he died at 10:32 p.m.

Mr. Hibbard was not injured.

Troopers said alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the crash; the incident remains under investigation.
