Apparent suicide attempt closes State Rt. 53
Road was closed temporarily in both directions in Ottawa County's Bay Township
12/29/2013PORT CLINTON -- An apparent suicide attempt closed State Rt. 53 in both directions for about a half hour today in Ottawa County's Bay Township, authorities said.
Kyle L. Jennings, 25, was listed in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, a hospital spokesman said.
Mr. Jennings was found about 10:40 a.m. lying outside a residence in the 4900 block of Route 53 suffering from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
A Life Flight helicopter landed at 11:09 a.m. and took off within 30 minutes, during which time the road remained closed, a dispatcher at the office said.
The shooting occurred about four miles southwest of Port Clinton, which is about 40 miles east of Toledo.
The incident remains under investigation.
