A Toledo man wanted for more than a year in connection with the robbery and shooting death of a South Toledo gym owner pleaded not guilty today in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Deitrekk Boone, 20, of 1416 Beecham St., is charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery for the Nov. 19, 2012 slaying of Joseph Lengel, 57, owner of CrossFit Intensity Gym.

Judge James Bates set bond at $1 million and appointed attorney Drew Griffith to defend Mr. Boone, who was arrested in Houston in December.

Four co-defendants who already have been sentenced to prison for their roles in the crime admitted they had planned to rob a man thought to be carrying drugs and money that morning, but that they got the wrong guy. Mr. Lengel was robbed of an iPad and then shot to death in the botched crime.
