Liquor store worker’s trial in death delayed
2/18/2014The trial of a liquor store employee charged with selling a bottle of vodka to a minor was postponed Tuesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.
Nicholas Thompson, 38, of 340 S. Reynolds Rd. is charged with a misdemeanor count of selling or furnishing intoxicating liquor to a minor. An employee of Foxx Liquor Store, 5341 Dorr St., Mr. Thompson allegedly sold a bottle of vodka Feb. 1, 2013, to a friend of Brian Hoeflinger, 18, an Ottawa Hills High School senior who was killed that night after drinking at a friend’s birthday party and then driving.
Judge James Bates agreed to postpone the trial until March 25 because of problems raised by defense attorney Rick Kerger over video recordings taken at Foxx Liquor when a search warrant was executed there April 16, 2013, by police and state liquor control agents.
