IDA, Mich. — A series of events, good timing for the good guys and an Ida Township homeowner - and not-so-good timing for the man who was trying to steal their stuff - led to the suspect's arrest Tuesday afternoon.

The name of the 26-year-old Toledo man, who was arrested and booked into the Monroe County jail on a home invasion charge, was not released pending his arraignment in a Monroe County court.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reported today that, at 1:19 p.m., a woman and her daughter arrived at their home in the 6800 block of Secor Road and saw a red car parked in their driveway. Next they saw a man carrying their property out of their home, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The three had a "brief conversation" before the suspect tried to flee in the red car by driving around the victim's vehicle.

The suspect's car became stuck in the snow, and the suspect took off on foot into a wooded area.

With the suspect's description broadcast to deputies, and his car trapped in snow, deputies were able to establish a perimeter and, within a half hour and less than a mile from the crime scene, arrest the suspect.

The stolen property was returned to the homeowner, deputies said.
