Funeral services scheduled for slain Elmore officer

An off-duty Elmore police officer who was shot dead while celebrating his birthday at a Fremont bar on Sunday morning will receive full police honors during his funeral services.

Visitation for Jose "Andy" Chavez, 26, is Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at Marsh Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Woodville. The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Woodmore High School, 633 Fremont St., in Elmore. The officer will be buried at Westwood Cemetery in Woodville.

Elmore Police officials ask that any officers who attend the services wear their dress uniforms; marked police vehicles are permitted for the funeral procession.

Officer Chavez was one of three men killed Sunday morning at Last Call Bar in Fremont. Also killed were Daniel Ramirez, 25, and Ramiro Sanchez, 28. A fourth man, Ramiro Arreola, 25, was shot in a shoulder, but is recovering.

Igmidio "Roger" Mista, 33, of Fremont, was arrested Monday by Fremont police. He is charged with three counts of murder and remains in the Sandusky County jail without bond.
