Toledo police shot and killed two dogs today as one of the animals attacked the other.

Police responded Wednesday evening to the 1400 block of Beecham Street in South Toledo to a report that one dog was attacking another dog, and that the victim dog's injuries were severe, authorities said.

The dogs had been separated when police arrived. Officers were waiting for Lucas County Canine Care & Control when the alleged attack dog somehow freed itself from behind a fence and resumed the assault on the already injured dog. The first dog was shot to stop the attack, and the other dog was shot because of its injuries, authorities said.
