Man charged with obstruction, intimidation in dog shooting

An East Toledo man is in jail on charges of intimidation and obstruction of justice in the shooting of a German shepherd last week.

Gary Crawford, 35, of 840 Utah St., has been indicted on the charges in relation to the March 24 shooting of the stray German shepherd in the 900 block of Clark Street in East Toledo, according to the Lucas County Sheriff's Office. He was being held at the Lucas County jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond pending his preliminary hearing Monday, according to county records. 

His cousin, Marcus Crawford, 26, of 841 Lucas St., has been indicted for carrying a concealed weapon and having a weapon while under disability. As of early today he was not in custody.

Jeff Lingo, chief of the criminal division for the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, said Gary Crawford allegedly called a witness who saw the shooting and “threatened to shoot up her house.”

The black-and-tan female dog, now named June, had been resting on a porch when was shot in the right shoulder. Her leg had to be amputated, and she underwent a successful surgery last Friday. June is now in a foster home with Planned Pethood and will later be adopted once she has fully recovered.
