Michigan pair charged with credit card fraud

DUNDEE, Mich. — A Petersburg, Mich. man arrested in the theft of credit card information from a hotel in Dundee remains in jail today while a Temperance woman arrested in the same case is free after posting a bond, authorities said.

Jason Beverly, 31, is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond at the Monroe County jail, deputies at the Monroe County jail said. Alivia Adams, 20, paid a $5,000 bond and was released from the Monroe County jail Monday, deputies said. The suspects were each charged with fraudulent use of a credit card and conspiracy to commit credit fraud in a credit card information theft November through March at the Holiday Inn and Splash Universe, according to Dundee police.

Police said the front desk clerk at the hotel gave customers' credit card information to her boyfriend, a former employee at the hotel, who then used it to buy items from Sears and Walmart on-line.

The suspects allegedly also used the stolen credit card information at other businesses, giving it over the phone under the pretext of not being able to stop by and later coming in to pick up the merchandise. They also apparently used that information to make car payments, get their vehicles serviced, and pay for meals, police said.

Police said the transactions were conducted "all over" Monroe, Lucas, and Washtenaw counties.
