A 23-year-old Toledo man couldn’t quite remember what happened just before he was shot in a toe, according to police.

Kim Hyatt, who was shot in his left big toe at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday, told officers who responded to Mercy St. Anne Hospital three different accounts of how he came to be injured.

The victim first told police he was walking westbound on Bancroft Street near Wyndhurst Road when a man came up and complimented the victim’s necklace. The victim agreed to show it to the man, but the man tried to grab it and then pulled out a gun and shot the victim in his toe, according to an incident report.

The victim then told police he was walking on Wyndhurst when he was shot. The third story put him at a friend’s house on Wyndhurst, in the front yard, when a gunman approached and asked to see the victim’s necklace. When the victim said, “I don’t know you,” the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

In each scenario, the man fled in an unknown direction and was described as a black man wearing all black.
