Man killed in single-car crash near Van Buren
4/24/2014VAN BUREN, Ohio — A Van Buren man was killed when a vehicle he was driving crashed early today near this Hancock County community, authorities said.
Justin Potteiger, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Hancock County Sheriff's Office. He did not wear a seat belt, sheriff deputies said in a prepared statement.
Mr. Potteiger was driving a sport utility vehicle north on Allen Township Road 232 just after crossing State Rt. 613 about 12:35 a.m. when for unknown reasons he lost control of the SUV, according to the sheriff's office. The vehicle then went off the west side of the road and struck a ditch and tree.
The crash remains under investigation.
Van Buren is about 30 miles south of Toledo.
