Spaghetti dinner set to benefit family of slain Elmore officer

ELMORE — A spaghetti dinner to benefit the family of an off-duty Elmore police officer who was shot to death while celebrating his birthday at a Fremont bar on March 9 will be held Sunday at Woodmore High School.
Jose “Andy” Chavez, 26, who was married and had two young children, was killed at the Last Call Bar along with Daniel Ramirez, 25, and Ramiro Sanchez, 28.
A fourth man, Ramiro Arreola, 25, was shot in a shoulder but later recovered.
The dinner will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school building, 633 Fremont St., Elmore. The meal will be donation only and will consist of spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, coleslaw, a cupcake, and a beverage.
The program includes a silent auction, 50/50 raffles, and a bake sale. Proceeds will go to Amber Chavez, the officer’s widow, and her children.
The event will be hosted by the villages of Elmore and Woodville, in partnership with Woodmore Schools. The late Elmore police officer was a Woodville resident and a Woodmore High School assistant soccer coach.
