Charges were filed against an 18-year-old Toledo man after he crashed a stolen vehicle into a tree and house over the weekend while being pursued by Toledo police officers.

Darion Martin, of 836 Southbriar Rd., is charged with failure to comply and grand theft auto. He remains in fair condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said.

According to a police incident report, officers saw a vehicle on Sunday with its bright head beams on and attempted to stop the vehicle using lights and sirens. The driver of the vehicle, a 2012 Kia Forte, did not stop and took officers on a chase to Western Avenue and Langdon Street where the driver lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a tree, and then struck 803 Western. The Kia then caught fire.

Police pulled Mr. Martin out of the vehicle. Craig Roger, of Oregon, whose age was not available, of Oregon, a passenger, was ejected from the vehicle.

Mr. Roger was also taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center with nonlife threatening injuries; a spokesman did not have a patient registered by that name.

The Kia was stolen on Saturday, police said.
