Toledo crews inspect building collapse on Broadway

Toledo Fire and Rescue Department personnel examine the rear of a multi-storied building at 20 Broadway, just above Swan Creek, in Toledo.

Toledo emergency crews are on the scene of a partial building collapse at 20 Broadway near Ottawa Street.

A large section of the back wall of the building has collapsed into Swan Creek, according to Toledo fire Lt. Matt Hertzfeld. There were no injuries.

Broadway will be blocked to traffic for several hours today as crews assess the damage, he said.

The incident occurred about 7:40 a.m. A passerby noticed bricks falling from the building into Swan Creek and alerted authorities.

Fire department officials believe a water leak over the winter may have affected the structural integrity of the building.

Lieutenant Hertzfeld said no one has occupied the building since last summer.
