A woman who, along with her boyfriend, was attacked by a bat-wielding man shot the attacker in South Toledo today.

The man was struck in a leg and taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio, in a private vehicle. The names of the involved were not immediately released.

Toledo police Lt. Frank Ramirez said that, at about 4:50 p.m, the man with a bat approached the woman‘s boyfriend in a lot next to 917 Vinton St. and swung the bat at him, hitting him in an arm. The man then swung at the woman. She, a conceal-carry permit holder, took a gun from her purse and fired at least twice, the lieutenant said.

The man then got into a black Dodge Charger and fled the scene with at least one other individual. Minutes later he showed up at the hospital for treatment.

It was not immediately known if charges would be filed.
