A 22-year-old Toledo man was shot in a leg Thursday while at Weiler Homes in East Toledo.

Garrett Ellis, Jr., was taken to a local hospital for treatment after being shot “a couple of times” at about 4:25 p.m. while he was standing near a tree. The victim ran onto a nearby porch, where he was eventually met by paramedics from the Toledo Fire Department. The injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The victim was shot in an apparent “ongoing beef,” said police Sgt. William Wauford.

On Monday, Mr. Ellis was found guilty of criminal trespassing in Toledo Municipal Court. The charge stemmed from an April incident when he was seen hanging out at Weiler Homes, from which he’s been banned, according to court records.

On Tuesday, Mr. Ellis was charged with carrying a concealed weapon because he allegedly had a gun at Weiler Homes. According to an affidavit, Toledo police Officer William White saw Mr. Ellis throw a gun to the ground.

Mr. Ellis was arraigned Wednesday, and his bond, which was later posted, was set at $10,000.
