FREMONT -- Bond has been set at $100,000 for a man accused of biting a Fremont police officer during a scuffle last week at a May Street home.

Ijar Darden, 36, of Fremont and Officer George Dorsey were both treated at ProMedica Fremont Memorial Hospital after the incident.

Mr. Darden was arraigned Thursday in Fremont Municipal Court on a charge of felonious assault and remained in the Sandusky County jail Friday in lieu of bond pending a preliminary hearing Tuesday, sheriff’‍s deputies said.

Police said Officer Dorsey was assisting emergency medical personnel at the home June 20 when Mr. Darden became combative and bit the officer in the forearm as he helped the EMS staff carry Mr. Darden down a stairway. Police then used a Taser gun to subdue Mr. Darden.

Fremont, the Sandusky County seat, is 33 miles southeast of Toledo.
