CURTICE, Ohio — Three people were injured when one motorcycle rear-ended another early Sunday on Corduroy Road just east of Howard Road in Jerusalem Township, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Karen Janowiecki, 43, of Toledo was in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center. Her Curtice companion, Paul Herbster, 43, who struck the motorcycle ahead of him when it slowed, suffered minor injuries in the crash but was not taken for treatment.

The passenger of the other motorcycle, Curtice resident Lori Luce, 44, suffered injuries but was released later Sunday from ProMedica Bay Park Hospital Sunday. The driver, Eddie Luce, 43, also of Curtice, was not injured.

Both motorcycles overturned at 1:35 a.m. after Mr. Luce reduced speed to avoid a pedestrian, and Mr. Herbster hit his bike from behind.

The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. It was unclear whether any of the motorcyclists wore helmets.
