MONROE -- A Michigan man died today after being ejected from his sport-utility vehicle on southbound I-75 in Erie Township.

Jeffrey Buchanan, 49, of Woodhaven, Mich., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff‘s Office. Officials said Mr. Buchanan was driving on the interstate just north of Erie Road and swerved to avoid a disabled, unoccupied pickup truck that had activated its hazard lights.

Mr. Buchanan lost control of his SUV, which then rolled onto its right side and stopped near the center median. Mr. Buchanan was not wearing a seat belt, deputies said. The crash was reported at 4:46 a.m.

The disabled pickup was then hit by two vehicles, also southbound on I-75. The truck had been driven by Corron Ollie, 24, of Lathrop Village, Mich. He was not injured.

Deputies said six vehicles were involved in five separate crashes.

All southbound lanes were closed until about 8:45 a.m.
