GIBSONBURG — A Defiance woman is in intensive care in Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 6 in Sandusky County on Thursday evening.

Teresa M. Miller, 52, was taken to the hospital by Gibsonburg EMS from the crash in Madison Township, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

She was driving a car east on U.S. 6 at about 6:15 p.m. and David Velazquez, 27, of Chicago was driving a large commercial truck east when she attempted to pass the truck, according to the patrol.

Because of that attempt to pass, the driver of a westbound large commercial truck, Edwin C. Godfrey, Jr., 57, of Churubusco, Ind., slowed and swerved to the right to avoid a collision, the patrol reported.

Ms. Miller then failed to maintain control while attempting to return to the eastbound lane and struck the westbound truck, according to the patrol.

The car then bounced back into the path of the eastbound truck, which swerved to avoid the car, but then struck the car, the patrol said. Both of those vehicles went off the south side of U.S. 6 and into the ditch.

The westbound truck went off the north side of U.S. 6, which was closed for about six hours.

Neither truck driver was injured.
