Woman dies after being struck by minivan in central Toledo

A 62-year-old woman died today after being struck by a vehicle near Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.

Nazia Awada, of West Delaware Avenue, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:43 a.m., police said. Police said Ms. Awada stepped onto Franklin Avenue, near Delaware, at about 5 a.m. and was hit by a minivan driven by Ralph Worthy, 60, of Norwood Avenue. Mr. Worthy called 911 and remained on scene, police said.

Officials said it does not appear that either speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
