Man in critical condition after East Toledo shooting

One of two people who was shot Monday night remained in critical condition today.

Keith Phillips, Jr., whose age was not available, is in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, a spokesman said. Mr. Phillips was in an alley behind his home in the 600 block of Platt Street in East Toledo when a man who asked to use the victim‘s cell phone shot the victim in the abdomen at about 11:23 p.m. The suspect, who had the phone, fled with it, according to a police incident report.

At 10:07 p.m., Donate Booth, whose age was not available, was shot in his left arm at City Park Avenue and Vance Street, police said. He was taken in a private vehicle to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center where he was treated and then released, a hospital spokesman said.

The victim told police he was walking through Savage Park when a dark-colored vehicle drove up behind him and someone fired four shots. The victim ran and found a friend to take him to the hospital.

Police said today that a man who tried to sleep off a “bullet wound” was not actually shot.

Kareem Roberts showed up at a local hospital Sunday morning with what he apparently thought was a gunshot wound to a knee. He told police h‍e‘d been at Robert‘s Food &‍‍ Spirits, 2635 N. Detroit Ave., at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, talking to women outside the bar, when he heard gunshots. He ran home, realized he was shot, and decided to go to sleep. When he woke  he “realized he was still shot,” and went to the hospital.

In an updated incident report released today, police said that Mr. Roberts was not shot, but that he “cut his knee while intoxicated.”
