At the back of an armored truck built to securely transport money from one location to another, a thief found opportunity and a bag of money.
A Garda truck was parked outside Chipotle, 3305 W. Central Ave., near Secor Road, while one of the two guards made a delivery just after 5 p.m. Monday.
The guard in the vehicle, in the driver's seat, told police she saw a man, dressed in all black, open the back door and take a bag of money. The driver told police she initially thought the man was the second guard returning to the truck.
Once a distinction was made between the grabber and the guard, the driver called police.
A Garda supervisor responded to the West Toledo shopping plaza and was able to determine how much money was taken, although the amount was not specified in a Toledo police report.
Police do not have any suspects.
Joe Gavaghan, a Garda spokesman, said in an emailed statement, “We are cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation of this incident and cannot provide any additional details.”
