Coast Guard exercises to simulate oil spill

The Coast Guard’s Marine Safety Unit in Toledo and representatives from the BP-Husky Toledo refinery are to hold an oil-spill response exercise Tuesday and Wednesday at various area marinas.

Emergency-response personnel will get tha chance to improve pollution response preparedness by testing local contingency plans and practicing command and control.

The exercise focuses on oil spill containment equipment deployments. Deployment exercises will begin Tuesday morning at the Skyway Marina.

In the afternoon, equipment deployment exercises will be at the New Brenner Marina, the Old Brenner Marina, and International Park Public Pavilion.

A command post exercise is planned for Wednesday to simulate a response to a potential large oil spill affecting a portion of the Maumee River and Maumee Bay.
