A Toledo man is being held in the Wood County jail for allegedly biting off half of another man's ear.

Michael Davis, 35, of 1556 Emerson, is charged in Perrysburg Municipal Court with felonious assault, domestic violence, and aggravated burglary. His bond was set Tuesday at $200,000. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 9.

Northwood police Sgt. Doug Hubaker said Mr. Davis broke into a home in the 400 block of Venice Drive, in Northwood, just after midnight Tuesday and allegedly pistol whipped his estranged wife, Michelle Davis, 30, of Toledo. Mr. Davis then reportedly went into a back bedroom where he found and allegedly assaulted Daniel Sipple, 30, of Toledo.

As the men were fighting, Mr. Sipple was bitten on his right ear; officers said about half of the ear was removed, Sergeant Hubaker said. The ear was found and Mr. Sipple was taken to a local hospital.

Officers later found Mr. Davis hiding in a “cubby” at a neighbor's home; he was subsequently arrested. Police said they recovered the gun which was used to strike Mrs. Davis.
