Police Chief George Kral has urged Toledo City Council to authorize a contract with Toledo Aerial Media to buy a drone system for his Toledo department for $14,349.

The drone would be able to take photos and video from as high as 300 feet, and it will use a mapping program that will be particularly helpful for traffic accidents and issues.

In June, Oregon City Council agreed to buy a Matrice 100 quadcopter from Toledo Aerial Media for $35,449 for that city’s police department.

Original plans called for Oregon to buy a $75,000 Lockheed Martin drone to share with Toledo police and the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, but Toledo City Council would not give approval for the Toledo Police Department’s share.
