Toledo man charged with operating illegal gambling machines

Authorities filed 61 administrative charges against 2 businesses

The Ohio Investigative Unit today announced several criminal charges against a Toledo man accusing him of operating illegal gambling machines inside city bars.

Lawrence Hutton, 63, faces nine counts of operating a gambling house, five counts of profit or scheme, and four counts of gambling. The charges follow search warrants enacted Thursday at Roby's Nite Club, 601 E. Broadway St., and Paris Nite Club, 1202 Front St.

Authorities filed 61 administrative charges against the two businesses. These include recklessly permitting public gaming and unsanitary conditions.

A separate 25 administrative charges are filed against the Anchor Inn, 4950 Suder Ave. The business also faces counts of recklessly permitting public gaming and operating a gambling house.

The state seized five gambling machines and about $2,100 from the three businesses.
