5 Toledo women charged in theft of Girl Scouts cookie money
They are accused of keeping thousands of dollars of proceeds
6/16/2017Toledo police charged five city residents who are accused of keeping thousands of dollars of proceeds from Girl Scouts of Western Ohio’s cookie sales.
A Girl Scouts official told investigators last week that several people received cookie boxes from the organization's offices at 2244 Collingwood Blvd. They agreed to turn in money from the sales, but failed to do so, she told police.
Police said in court records that Jennifer Hardison, 35, of the 700 block of Carlton Street; Wendy Keller, 42, of the 3700 block of Driftwood Road; Alexis Richardson, 31, of the 2700 block of Brentwood Avenue; and Angela Eaton, 39, of the 3800 block of House of Stuart Avenue all did not provide payments. Each of the four is charged with theft.
The defendants are each accused of taking between $1,080 to $1,272, police said.
A fifth defendant is charged with a felony count of passing bad checks. Rachel Vallejo, 46, of the 500 block of Weston Street, issued a check she knew would not be honored, police said in court records.
Ms. Vallejo still had a total balance of $1,754 unpaid to the organization, according to police.
Ms. Hardison and Ms. Eaton both appeared this week in Toledo Municipal Court. A judge released them on their own recognizance.
