Toledo firefighters were able to resuscitate three dogs pulled from a burning house in North Toledo on Sunday.

The fire at a single-family home in the 1900 block of North Michigan Street was reported about 7:30 p.m. and was contained by about 7:40 p.m. No one was at home when the fire broke out, except for the dogs, Battalion Chief Bob Krause said.

He said the fire appeared to have started in the front room of the first floor, and the cause is still under investigation. Crews arrived to smoke pouring from the home’s front windows, he said. By about 8 p.m. the firefighters were rolling up their hoses and assessing the damage to the house.

Two dogs were carried from the scene while a third was given oxygen on the sidewalk in front of the home. Chief Krause said he expects all three dogs to survive.
