A Sylvania Township man is accused of strangling a puppy and claiming he was going to kill the animal during a domestic dispute, according to affidavits filed in Sylvania Municipal Court.

Gerald T. Dryer, Jr., 30, of the 5000 block of Barton Place is charged with two counts of domestic violence and one count of prohibitions concerning companion animals, all misdemeanor offenses.

Mr. Dryer is accused of telling a woman if she did not leave the residence, he was “going to go to jail for murder,” court documents show. He allegedly tried to smash her vehicle’s window with a rock while she sat inside the car, according to court documents.

Police indicated the puppy was not injured.

Sylvania Township police arrested Mr. Dryer at about 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, and he was booked in the Lucas County jail, according to jail records.

He was arraigned Wednesday in Sylvania Municipal Court, where bond was set at $25,000 with no percent allowed. Mr. Dryer was assigned a public defender.

Mr. Dryer was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
