COLUMBUS - For Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush, the road to the GOP national convention heads through the key battleground state of Ohio over the next two days.

It is a swing state that Bill Clinton carried in 1992 and 1996, and it may be critical to Mr. Bush's fortunes this year.

Mr. Bush is scheduled to attend a picnic in the Cincinnati suburb of Blue Ash this afternoon.

Tomorrow, he will appear at rallies on the University of Dayton campus and at the Statehouse here.

Mr. Bush's "Renewing America's Purpose Tour" ends Wednesday when he arrives in Philadelphia for the convention.

He is slated to make campaign stops Tuesday in Charleston, W.Va., and Harrisburg, Pa.
