Ohio Senate Democrats pick leader
12/6/2000COLUMBUS - Ohio Senate Democrats, still outnumbered 21 to 12 by Republicans, yesterday elected a minority leader for the 2001-02 session, state Sen. Leigh Herington (D., Kent).
He will replace state Sen. Rhine McLin (D., Dayton), who has been interim leader since a frustrated state Sen. Ben Espy gave up the post in May. Ms. McLin is expected to run for Dayton mayor next year.
Sen. Greg Didonato (D., New Philadelphia) was elected assistant minority leader, replacing Sen. Herington. Sen. Brady was elected minority whip, pushing out state Sen. Mike Shoemaker (D., Bourneville). Sen. Mark Mallory (D., Cincinnati), in turn, replaces Mr. Brady as assistant minority whip.
Democrats have been unable to do much more than complain about their lack of input as Republicans control the agenda.
