COLUMBUS - Democrats in the Ohio House of Representatives will appoint Toledo Councilwoman Edna Brown to fill the seat now held by Toledo Mayor-elect Jack Ford.

“Based on the interviews and the feedback we received from the local community, the screening committee decided Ms. Brown would be an excellent choice to replace Rep. Ford,” said House Minority Leader Dean DePiero (D., Parma).

On Dec. 13, Ms. Brown won the endorsement of the Lucas County Democratic Party. She was the only candidate to interview with House Democrats, who are expected to appoint her Jan. 8. Mr. Ford's resignation takes effect Dec. 31.

Ms. Brown represents council District 4, which includes downtown Toledo and surrounding neighborhoods.

Her annual pay will increase from $18,500 on city council to $53,017 a year as a state representative.

Paula Ross, chairwoman of the Lucas County Democratic Party, said the party will interview candidates next month to replace Ms. Brown on city council.
