BLADE COLUMBUS BUREAU

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Lynn Olman (R., Maumee) has resigned as chairman of the House Public Utilities Commitee.

Mr. Olman, who became the committee chairman in 1999, said he voluntarily stepped down because term limits prevent him from running for re-election. Mr. Olman, who is running for Lucas County commissioner, said his successor - expected to be state Rep. John Hagan (R., Alliance) - "will be better able to hit the ground running in 2005 by serving the remainder of 2004 as chairman. "

Committee chairmen receive an extra $6,500 above their legislative salaries. Mr. Olman will bump down to vice chairman, which pays an extra $5,000.
