Perrysburg councilman plans to run for mayor's job

Perrysburg City Councilman Thomas Mackin is planning to run for mayor of the city in November.

Mr. Mackin, who was first elected to council in 1998 and is serving his second term, withdrew a petition from the Wood County Board of Elections this week. To get his name on the ballot, he must submit the petition with at least 82 signatures by July 5.

Mr. Mackin, 40, is an attorney in Perrysburg. He said the city is headed in the right direction, and he has the kind of leadership needed to take Perrysburg to "a new level."

"I have the leadership skills to work with different groups to get things done and serve the best interests of the city," he said.

Mr. Mackin is the third person to declare his candidacy for mayor. Nelson Evans, former Perrysburg police chief, and Matt Hawkins, a graduate student at Bowling Green State University, are planning to run.
