Results same in Monroe mayor recount

11/23/2005

MONROE - A recount yesterday of an Election Day contest in which a former Monroe mayor bested the incumbent by 14 votes brought no change in the outcome, city officials said.

In the Nov. 8 contest, C.D. "Al" Cappuccilli, a six-time mayor, beat Mayor John Iacoangeli 1,983 to 1,969.

Mr. Iacoangeli last week filed for a recount. The city clerk's office spent about nine hours yesterday tabulating the votes. The result was the same number of votes for each candidate, Clerk Charles Evans said.

It was the third time the two men faced one another in a mayor's race, with Mr. Cappuccilli winning twice. In 2003, Mr. Iacoangeli beat Mr. Cappuccilli by 12 votes for his only victory.
