Lucas County commissioner debate set

3/8/2006

Democratic and Republican candidates for Lucas County Commissioner will debate each other on April 10 at the downtown branch of the Lucas County Public Library.

"There's certainly no reason why the electorate shouldn't be exposed to the differences in the ideas and personalities," said Brian Wilson, WSPD-AM 1370 program director. He added that the radio station will broadcast the debate live.

Democrats Ben Konop and Maumee Mayor Tim Wagener have agreed to the debate.

Both candidates have said they are in favor of holding multiple debates before the May 2 primary election.

Republican candidates Pam Haynam, a member of the Sylvania school board, and Toledo City Councilman George Sarantou, will also participate in the debate, which is scheduled for

5:30 to 7 p.m.

Toledo City Councilman Phil Copeland, a Democrat, did not return phone calls.

In addition to WSPD, Fox Toledo 36 and the Toledo Free Press will sponsor the debate. Steve France, Fox Toledo's news director, said the television channel intends to broadcast part of the debate.
