Clyde-Green Springs levy still fails after recount

5/26/2006

FREMONT The dust has finally settled on the levy issue for the Clyde-Green Springs School District that was rejected earlier this month.

The 2.5-mill issue still lost in the May 2 primary, although two previous counts gave different totals.

Yesterday, a hand count by the Sandusky County Board of Elections determined the levy lost by three votes. On Election Night, only one vote separated victory from defeat. The vote certification on May 17 showed a seven-vote loss.

No discrepancies were found in the Seneca County recount held on Wednesday.

The total combined outcome was 1,124 to 1,127.

Director Barbara Tuckerman said several ballots were marked with pencil instead of black ink, which the new optical scanner does not read.

The school board has approved placing the same issue on the Aug. 8 ballot. The tax would raise $539,000 a year.
