Congressional incumbents and their opponents yesterday were urged to support policies that save energy and promote alternative power.

The Ohio Public Interest Research Group, through a campaign called New Energy Future, called upon candidates to seek reductions in oil use by 33 percent by 2025 while trying to get a quarter of the nation s energy needs filled from clean and renewable domestic power sources.

The group also urged a 10 percent reduction in energy consumption through higher-efficiency appliances, building designs, and energy-saving materials by 2025 while tripling research and development funds.
