Residents in some precincts in Lucas and Wood counties voted last night to allow some businesses to open the spigot on Sunday beer, wine, and mixed beverage sales.

Voters in certain precincts in Maumee, Oregon, Toledo, and Sylvania Township were asked to allow Meijer stores located there to sell wine and mixed beverages from 10 a.m. to midnight on Sundays.

Maumee voters approved the sale of wine and mixed beverages with 64.5 percent of the unofficial tally.

Voting in the other precincts were incomplete at press time.

In Oregon's District 4, voters were asked to approve the German American Festival Society's ability to sell wine and mixed beverages between 10 a.m. and midnight.

Springfield Township Precinct 1 voters said yes to beer, wine, and mixed drink sales at the New Airport Lounge, at 7130 Airport Highway, with 57.3 percent of the unofficial vote.

Waterville Precinct 6 voters were asked to do the same for the Miller New Market at 5917 Weckerly Rd. Those totals were incomplete at press time.

In Perrysburg, downtown establishments Kazmaier's 5-Star Market, Casa Baron, and Stella's easily won approval to sell beer, wine, and mixed drinks on Sundays. The establishments got about 80 percent of the unofficial vote in their bid to serve liquor on Sundays. The businesses sought the Sunday approvals to remain competitive.

In Plain Township in Wood County, voters gave the nod to the sale of beer, wine, and mixed beverages at The Semaphore, a drive-through and mini-mart on Bowling Green Road, and the sale of the alcohol on Sundays. Some 57.7 percent of the voters approved the sale of alcohol in the township establishment and then approved the Sunday sale with 53 percent of the vote.
