Columbus Grove mayor resigns following third alcohol-related arrest

COLUMBUS GROVE, Ohio A village mayor has resigned after his third alcohol-related arrest this year.

Columbus Grove Mayor Michael Bogart is stepping down amid pressure from other village leaders.

Mr. Bogart turned in his resignation Tuesday.

Mr. Bogart, who is serving a six-month jail sentence for driving while his driver s license was under suspension.

Council voted 6-0 Monday night to ask for Mr. Bogart s resignation.

Mr. Bogart, who is running for a third term as a write-in candidate in November, was sentenced last week in Putnam County Court to 180 days in jail for driving under suspension and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle. He had been convicted of drunken driving this year. He was arrested again in July for violating his probation.
