Ford, Sobecki elected to Toledo Board of Education

With nearly all of the votes counted, former Toledo Mayor Jack Ford and Lisa Sobecki, the "Mom on a Mission," have been elected to the Toledo Board of Education.

Mr. Ford, who was Toledo mayor from January, 2002, to January, 2006, and Ms. Sobecki, a longtime parent volunteer, won more than 17,500 votes each.

Endorsed Republican Chris Myers, a University of Michigan Webmaster, followed in a distant third place with about 7,500 votes from 271 out of 275 precincts.

Endorsed Democrat Cheryl Catlin, a graphic and Web designer, was in fourth place with almost 6,300 votes.

Ms. Sobecki was also endorsed by the Lucas County Democratic Party.

The other candidates were Ted Jobe, who spent 36 years as a social studies and history teacher at Libbey High School, Harold Mosley, a 27-year Toledo police veteran, and John "Bulldog" Rust, a local lawyer who ran as a write-in.

Mr. Ford had more than 10,000 votes with 147 out of 275 precincts reporting.

Lisa Sobecki, who campaigned as a "Mom on a Mission" was in second place with 9,136 votes.

The endorsed Republican, Chris Myers, was in a distant third place, with Cheryl Catlin close behind him.

Seven candidates are seeking to win two seats on the Toledo Board of Education.

They have dueled for weeks over school safety, failing schools, relations with the teachers union, and money woes.
