State Sen. Randy Gardner (R., Bowling Green) yesterday officially declared that he will seek the state House of Representatives seat being vacated by state Rep. Bob Latta (R., Bowling Green).

Mr. Gardner is term-limited in the 2nd Senate District, and Mr. Latta is term-limited in the 6th House District, which consists of Wood County.

"My passion to serve the citizens of •Wood County and northwest Ohio remains strong," Mr. Gardner said.

He has bachelor's and master's degrees from Bowling Green State University. Mr. Gardner is currently Senate majority leader. He represented the 6th Ohio House district for 15 years before his election in 2000 to the Senate.

Democrat Jeff Bretz, a former North Baltimore councilman, announced Nov. 27 that he would run for the House seat, which would be his second attempt. Mr. Bretz ran against Mr. Latta last year, but lost with 43 percent of the vote.
