Independent quits race for Seneca County bench

3/12/2008

TIFFIN Almost before his campaign began, a Tiffin lawyer who filed to run as an independent for the position of Seneca County probate and juvenile court judge has withdrawn from the race.

Victor Perez, an in-house attorney for the Seneca County department of job and family services, cited family considerations in dropping out of the race.

His departure means Jay Meyer, who won a hotly contested Republican primary for the seat, will become the new probate and juvenile judge next year.

Mr. Meyer was the top vote-getter among six candidates for the nomination.

No Democrats ran for the judgeship, which is being vacated with the retirement of Paul Kutscher.
