U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo), who first went to Congress 26 years ago, is one of the area's most prominent Democrats and recently returned from her party's national convention in Denver.

That event, which featured the nomination of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama as the country's first African-American nominee for president, is among the topics Miss Kaptur discusses with host Jack Lessenberry this week on Deadline Now.

Miss Kaptur and Mr. Lessenberry, The Blade's ombudsman, have a frank talk about what Mr. Obama would be able to do for the area's troubled economy if he is elected president, and just how much help any administration really can provide for a region's economic outlook.

They also talk about what they think the priorities should be for the new president.

Deadline Now will be broadcast at 8:30 tonight and at 2:30 a.m. tomorrow on WGTE-TV, Channel 30.
